Lego began in Billund, Denmark and was made by a private company called The Lego Group. Lego has changed a lot from wooden toys in 1932 to plastic bricks in 1949. The Lego Group started with Ole Kirk Christiansen and got its name from the Danish phrase “leg godt,” meaning “play well.” Lego’s change to plastic in 1947 laid the groundwork for the brick system. The modern Lego brick was patented in 1958, making sure it worked with all other Lego pieces. In the beginning of 2015, The Lego Group became the biggest toy company in the world in terms of money earned. They made $2.1 billion in sales.
