Audi first became an official sponsor of FC Barcelona during the 2006/07 season. This partnership marked a strong collaboration between the German luxury car manufacturer and one of Europe’s most iconic football clubs. Over the years, Audi provided the Barcelona squad with their latest car models while gaining significant brand visibility at the club’s matches, training facilities, and global marketing campaigns.
In October 2011, Audi and FC Barcelona renewed their sponsorship agreement, extending it until 2014. Under this extended agreement, Audi was designated as the club’s official car partner worldwide. This renewal expanded Audi’s ability to utilize FC Barcelona’s image and brand, providing rights to use the club’s name for national and international promotion. Additionally, the deal ensured Audi would continue supplying vehicles to the team and participate in the club’s pre-season tours.
The agreement allowed Audi to enhance its association with FC Barcelona through advertising and marketing. Audi gained access to promote their cars at Barça’s home stadium, Camp Nou, and through various digital and physical assets of the club. Player appearances in Audi’s campaigns further strengthened the collaboration.
In November 2014, Audi introduced Barcelona players to their first plug-in hybrid vehicle, the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to sustainable mobility. As part of this activation, the players participated in the “Audi e-tron challenge,” where they engaged in innovative games and activities showcasing the brand’s cutting-edge technology in electric vehicles.
In December 2014, FC Barcelona and Audi extended their sponsorship deal until 2018. This renewal included continued collaboration on the global stage, further enhancing Audi’s presence in Barcelona’s pre-season tours and promotional events. It also marked a deeper commitment to new markets as the club expanded its operations, such as opening an office in New York.
Despite the long-standing relationship, the partnership between Audi and FC Barcelona concluded in June 2019. Audi decided not to renew the deal, which led to the return of cars provided to the players. This marked the end of a 13-year collaboration between the two brands, during which Audi had supplied various models, including the Audi Q7 and RS 6 Avant, to players and management.
