On December 15, 2021, the Premier League and Barclays celebrated two decades of partnership by announcing a renewed three-year sponsorship deal, extending through the 2024/25 season. This renewal marks a continuation of their relationship that began in 2001 under the Barclaycard brand.

The announcement coincided with Barclays’ decision to also renew its sponsorship of women’s football with The Football Association (The FA), covering the same period from the 2022/23 to the 2024/25 seasons. This commitment includes a groundbreaking investment of over £30 million in women and girls’ football, doubling the previous amount and setting a new benchmark for investment in UK women’s sports.
Barclays’ support extends beyond the Premier League, providing essential financial services to the league and its clubs, including corporate banking and foreign exchange solutions. Additionally, starting from the 2022-23 season, Barclays will become the first title sponsor of the FA Women’s Championship, now named the Barclays FA Women’s Championship.
Furthermore, Barclays is set to increase its investment in girls’ grassroots football. This includes extending its sponsorship of The FA Girls’ Football School Partnerships, with the goal of ensuring girls have equal access to football in schools. Since 2019, when Barclays began sponsoring the program, it has helped add 9,700 new schools, increasing the total to over 12,000. The funding boost aims to expand the program further, targeting 20,000 schools offering football to girls by 2024.
