In June 2018, Hyundai Motor made an exciting announcement, revealing a multi-year partnership with Chelsea Football Club. As part of the deal, the Hyundai logo would be prominently displayed on the sleeve of Chelsea’s match shirts, marking the company’s entry into the UK football market. This collaboration made Hyundai the Global Automotive Partner of Chelsea FC, extending its established presence in international football.
This partnership marked Hyundai’s first venture into the UK football market, continuing the brand’s long-standing commitment to football sponsorship. Over the past 20 years, Hyundai had built a strong presence in football, engaging in national and international competitions, and the collaboration with Chelsea FC further solidified Hyundai’s reputation as a major player in global sports partnerships.
The deal not only ensured Hyundai’s visibility on Chelsea’s jerseys, but it also extended to various marketing activations. The partnership included prominent car displays at the club, LED perimeter branding at home matches, and rights to digital and media content.
To kickstart the partnership, Hyundai launched a special video featuring Chelsea stars Olivier Giroud, David Luiz, and Tiémoué Bakayoko. The video showed the players participating in a photoshoot, but with a twist—Chelsea fans took the spotlight, embodying the roles of their heroes. This unique initiative was shared across Hyundai UK’s Facebook channel, allowing fans to engage directly with the brand.
Additionally, Hyundai ran an exclusive competition offering fans the chance to win tickets to Chelsea’s first home Premier League game of the 2018/19 season at Stamford Bridge, building excitement and engagement with the Chelsea community.
The partnership’s first public appearance was on July 23, 2018, during Chelsea’s friendly match against Perth Glory in Australia, marking the debut of the Hyundai logo on Chelsea’s jerseys. This event kicked off the partnership in style, with Hyundai’s branding on full display as Chelsea prepared for the 2018/19 season.
Unfortunately, in March 2022, Hyundai became one of the sponsors to suspend its partnership with Chelsea FC after the UK Government imposed sanctions on the club’s owner, Roman Abramovich.
