Hyundai and FIFA: A Historic Partnership

Hyundai’s partnership with FIFA began in 1999 when it first became a sponsor for 13 FIFA competitions, including the iconic 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan. This marked the beginning of a long and successful relationship between the automotive giant and the world’s governing football body. Hyundai’s sponsorship continued through multiple FIFA World Cups, including the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany, and Kia joined the partnership in 2006, further cementing the Group’s role as a key player in global football sponsorship.

A Strong Legacy in FIFA Events

Hyundai’s involvement in FIFA events has evolved over the years, with the company serving as the official automotive supplier for several World Cup tournaments, including 2002, 2006, and 2010. The company’s commitment to providing high-quality transportation solutions was crucial for the smooth operation of FIFA events, including the movement of teams, officials, and staff. Hyundai’s fleet of vehicles became an essential part of the global logistics for the FIFA World Cup and other FIFA competitions such as the FIFA Women’s World Cup, FIFA U-20 and U-17 World Cups, and the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

In 2010, Hyundai/Kia signed a long-term agreement that extended their sponsorship through 2022. This agreement granted the automotive brands comprehensive rights to all FIFA events, solidifying their position as Official Automotive FIFA Partner for multiple tournaments.

Renewal of the Partnership Through 2030

In May 2023, Hyundai Motor Group—comprising Hyundai Motor Company, Kia Corporation, and new subsidiaries Boston Dynamics and Supernal—announced the renewal of their partnership with FIFA until 2030. This marks the continuation of their legacy as FIFA’s official mobility partners, enhancing the growth and development of football while pushing for sustainable innovation in mobility.

A key feature of the renewed agreement is the emphasis on the growth of women’s football, with Hyundai and Kia playing a pivotal role in supporting the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 and the FIFA World Cup 2026. Hyundai’s partnership will now include exclusive mobility solutions for all FIFA events, such as the FIFA Youth Competitions and FIFA eWorld Cup, where the Group will provide cutting-edge transportation solutions powered by its global distribution network.

Additionally, Hyundai’s subsidiaries Boston Dynamics and Supernal bring new dimensions to this partnership by showcasing their robotics and air mobility technologies.
