On July 12, 2007, Kumho Tire announced its sponsorship agreement with Manchester United, which lasted until 2011. This four-year deal allowed Kumho to use Manchester United’s logo and player images in its advertisements, with the goal of boosting its international brand presence. Kumho Tire’s CEO at the time, Oh Se-chul, expressed that this partnership would help elevate the company’s global profile, aligning it with one of the world’s most famous football clubs.
Throughout the duration of the sponsorship, Kumho Tire used Manchester United’s vast fan base and branding to strengthen its global marketing efforts. The deal gave the company opportunities to integrate the football club’s imagery into its promotional materials, enhancing Kumho’s visibility in international markets, especially in regions with a strong football fan base.
As part of the sponsorship agreement, Kumho Tire also hosted a friendly match between Manchester United and a local team at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on July 20, 2007. This activation event was aimed at engaging the Asian market, one of Kumho’s key regions. The partnership between Kumho and Manchester United was officially introduced at a press conference in Seoul on July 19, 2007.
