Since 2015, Manchester City has held a global partnership with South Korean tire manufacturer Nexen Tire, marking a strong collaboration across multiple sectors. Initially, Nexen Tire became the official tire partner of the club, with the partnership announced during a signing ceremony at the City Football Academy. This global deal allowed Nexen Tire to integrate its branding prominently at the Etihad Stadium, including LED advertising and naming rights to the bridge connecting the stadium with the training facility.
In March 2017, Nexen Tire made history by becoming the first-ever sleeve partner for both Manchester City and the Premier League, expanding its footprint in football sponsorship.
Nexen Tire further expanded its investments across City Football Group teams, including partnerships with Manchester City Women, Elite Development Squad, and international clubs like New York City FC and Melbourne City FC.
Over the years, Nexen Tire activated multiple campaigns through its partnership, such as the Nexen Skills Challenges featuring City players and the Nexen Purple Summit, which brought together stakeholders to witness the impact of the collaboration firsthand. The brand also launched content like the Road Trip Roulette series, driving high fan engagement.
The company’s branding was also visible across the club’s assets, including the team bus and on LED signage around the stadium. Importantly, Nexen played a key role in community efforts, such as supporting a community pitch in East Los Angeles and sponsoring the Nexen Man City Cup, one of the biggest youth football tournaments in the U.S.
In May 2023, Manchester City and Nexen Tire extended their partnership into its fourth term, cementing over a decade of collaboration. The latest agreement signals a shift in focus for Nexen, which no longer features on the playing kit sleeve but instead emphasizes a more digital and localized activation strategy, focusing on its “We Got You” brand identity. This strategic change will see Nexen continue leveraging digital platforms, particularly through creative content and digital campaigns in priority markets.
