Hamburg, August 2025 – FC St. Pauli has announced a new two-year partnership with StadtRAD Hamburg, the city’s leading bike-sharing system. The collaboration focuses on promoting climate-friendly transport solutions, raising awareness of sustainable mobility among fans, and providing practical benefits for matchday visitors.
Through this partnership, fans will be encouraged to use bikes as an eco-friendly alternative to cars and public transport when traveling to Millerntor Stadium. A new StadtRAD station will be installed directly at the stadium, making it easier for fans to cycle to home games. In addition, digital travel vouchers will be provided on matchdays, allowing registered users to ride across Hamburg from midnight to 11:59 p.m. at no extra cost.
One of the most notable features of the deal is StadtRAD’s sponsorship of the “bicycle cloakroom” – a free, guarded bike-parking service for fans attending matches at Millerntor. This initiative supports FC St. Pauli’s long-standing efforts to promote car-free matchdays and reduce carbon emissions connected to sporting events.
Jürgen Gudd, Managing Director of DB Connect, highlighted the shared vision: “Cycling and football both stand for activity and fitness. With this partnership, we want to inspire even more people to use our bike-sharing system as a flexible and sustainable mobility solution. Sport and mobility bring people together.”
Anjes Tjarks, Hamburg Senator for Transport and Mobility Transition, emphasized the broader impact: “StadtRAD and FC St. Pauli are natural partners in representing urbanity and climate friendliness. During the EURO 2024 Fan Festival and St. Pauli’s home games, we saw bike rentals increase by 45% and returns by 56%. With new digital locking technology, renting is even easier – making cycling to the stadium more attractive than ever.”
Wilken Engelbracht, Commercial Director of FC St. Pauli, added: “We are pleased to continue offering real benefits to our fans while contributing to the mobility transition. After initiatives like car-free matchdays, this collaboration with StadtRAD takes our commitment to sustainable travel to the next level.”
The cooperation is considered one of the most advanced fan-mobility initiatives in German professional football. By linking urban mobility with matchday experiences, FC St. Pauli and StadtRAD Hamburg are sending a strong message about the importance of sustainable transport in modern sport.
Launched in 2009, StadtRAD Hamburg operates on behalf of the City of Hamburg and has become a model for bike-sharing in Germany. With more than 240,000 registered users and a network of stations across the city, it plays a key role in reducing CO₂ emissions and promoting everyday cycling. The new partnership with FC St. Pauli strengthens its role in sustainable urban development and fan engagement.
