The partnership’s goals include delivering nutritional support for Real Madrid’s teams, advancing sports nutrition research, and driving impactful health education for children in need, through initiatives in 80 countries. The alliance emphasizes the shared commitment to improving lives through nutrition, sports, and education.
Abbott’s commitment to improving nutrition on a global scale aligns with its broader mission to address malnutrition, chronic diseases, and health inequalities worldwide. As part of the partnership, Abbott supports the Real Madrid Foundation’s Social Sports Schools, providing essential nutritional education and malnutrition screening to children in underserved areas. Since the partnership began, Abbott has delivered over 25,000 hours of health and nutrition education, benefiting thousands of children across several countries.
The collaboration aims to reduce malnutrition, with a particular focus on improving the nutritional status of children. Abbott’s groundbreaking tools, such as the Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) z-score tape, are used to screen children for malnutrition, providing actionable data that helps families and communities address these critical health issues. This initiative has already shown tangible results, with children in places like Mexico receiving tailored nutritional counseling and improving their health markers.
A significant component of the partnership is the Future Well Kids program, a health and nutrition education initiative developed by Abbott and Discovery Education. This program educates children in countries such as the U.S., U.K., Brazil, Colombia, India, Kenya, Mexico, Philippines, and Tanzania on the importance of maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle to prevent chronic illnesses like diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
The program empowers children with knowledge about the importance of diet, exercise, and overall well-being, encouraging healthier behaviors that can last a lifetime. By combining education with practical tools, Abbott and Real Madrid are helping children understand how to take charge of their health.
Beyond its work with the Real Madrid Foundation, Abbott’s partnership with the club extends into health and nutrition research, especially in sports. The Abbott – Real Madrid Innovation Lab, located at Real Madrid’s training facilities, is a joint venture where Abbott’s scientists and the club’s medical team collaborate to advance sports health and nutrition.
