On 28 April 2022, Real Madrid and Daktronics entered a significant multi-year global partnership, marking an exciting development for the iconic Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. Daktronics, a leader in audiovisual systems, will provide cutting-edge 360-degree video scoreboards and an extensive network of LED screens around the stadium to elevate the match-day experience and create memorable events for fans.
As part of the partnership, Daktronics will install over 3,700 square meters of LED screens in the Santiago Bernabéu. This will include the innovative 360-degree video scoreboard, a centerpiece for both match days and other events held at the stadium. The installation will be managed alongside Legaz Arquitectura e Ingeniería, Daktronics’ installation partner.
The new scoreboard will be equipped with 18 LED screens positioned around the stadium, offering a continuous, seamless view of digital content. These screens will boast 13HD pixel resolution, delivering outstanding image clarity and contrast for every seat in the house. The dynamic system will showcase live videos, instant replays, statistics, animations, and sponsor messages, offering an immersive experience for fans.
The stadium’s halo display will be a true game-changer, with 18 total LED displays—18 screens on the inside and backside—creating a stunning visual experience for fans both inside and outside the stadium. The halo measures 6.5 meters at the sides and corners, and 11 meters at the ends behind the goals, with each screen set at an 8° inclination, forming a unique truncated cone.
Three new 5.5m high and 10m wide screens have been installed on the rear side of the halo to engage spectators in the upper tiers of the stadium. The innovative freeform ProPixel stick displays at the inner corners of the halo will ensure an uninterrupted view of digital content.
The installation goes beyond enhancing the fan experience—it also offers increased sponsorship visibility. Daktronics’ Show Control system, which provides industry-leading display control software, video processing, and data integration, will allow Real Madrid to create seamless content management for the stadium’s displays.
A prominent ribbon display, also part of the project, will stretch along the stadium seating fascia. Measuring 1.1 meters high and 491.47 meters long, this screen will complement the halo display and offer further opportunities to showcase sponsor branding and supplemental event content.
This collaboration between Real Madrid and Daktronics promises not only to transform the way fans experience games but also to lead the way in sports venue technology. As both organizations continue to innovate in the sports and entertainment space, this partnership sets the stage for a new era of digital fan engagement, while boosting sponsorship opportunities and creating global brand connections.
