The French Professional Football League (Ligue 1) and McDonald’s have signed a strategic partnership, under which McDonald’s will become the title partner of Ligue 1 from July 1, 2024, for the next three seasons.
According to report of the L’Equipe, Uber Eats paid the league €15 million annually during the first two seasons and increased its sponsorship payments to €16 million in 2022-2023 and €17 million in 2023-2024 after extending the contract in 2022. McDonald’s proposed to pay around €20 million per season starting from the next season.
Vincent Labrune, President of the French Professional Football League said: “At a time when enthusiasm for Ligue 1 has never been stronger, with record attendances in stadiums, welcoming an international brand like McDonald’s into the home of French professional football sends a very strong signal of the attractiveness of Ligue 1. This major agreement marks the union between two popular and accessible worlds, inseparable for many fans. With McDonald’s, our ambition is to offer numerous activations for fans and all French people who are used to visiting its restaurants. This new agreement also marks the end of a wonderful collaboration with Uber Eats as the title sponsor of Ligue 1. I would like to thank the management of Uber Eats France for their trust and support.”
Jacques Mignault, President of McDonald’s France said: “McDonald’s and Ligue 1 is a partnership that makes perfect sense. Whether with family or friends, Ligue 1 club supporters often associate a McDonald’s moment with a Ligue 1 matchday. Building on this close connection, we aim to enable an even larger number of football enthusiasts to fully experience their passion. We have many projects and ideas to bring this partnership to life over the next three years and across the entire territory. For over 40 years, our franchisees have been faithful and committed partners in enabling amateur sports clubs to develop and realize their projects. We will pay special attention to enabling young amateur athletes to have unforgettable experiences under this new partnership. Indeed, we aspire to become, at our level, a true link between professional football and amateur sports.”
Thus, McDonald’s will replace Uber Eats after holding naming rights for four seasons. The league’s name is set to change from Ligue 1 Uber Eats to Ligue 1 McDonald’s.
Additionally, McDonald’s is a sponsor and partner of French clubs:
Official partner of Paris Saint-Germain, Premium partner of Lens, Official Supplier of Olympique Lyonnais, Partner of fc Metz, fc Lorient, and fc Strasbourg.
